Game On . . .June 28, 2011
Jared Wilson:
Headlines: BOOK'S BATS STAY HOT, AND MOVE TO 5-0 -(Hooper AP) Weber County - With the sun scorching an already traditionally dry diamond, the league's top team played host to the bottom dwellers of the WCMLSF3. The home town favorite, Got Books, jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start the game, only to see the visitors storm back with some timely hitting in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at 5. Got Books quickly broke that tie in the bottom half, as they flexed their muscles (and guts) and pounded the opposing pitcher for 8 runs, to take a comfortable 13-5 advantage. The inning was highlighted by some tremendous hustle on the base paths, which included a tremendous head first slide into third by Malan Maw, and a crowd pleasing dive into home by Gavin Crowther which left him with his shorts down! (That alone will in all likelihood put a few more female fans in the bleachers! However, ladies please take note that the entire Got Books roster is happily married, will not be accepting phone numbers!) The scoring was capped off by an inside the ball park home run courtesy of third baseman Brodie Panter, who returned from a recent contract hold out. The final innings featured some nice hitting by both teams, and Got Books held on for the 17-12 victory. Game notes: Got Books was without second baseman, Clint Hadley, and catcher, Merlin Mckay, who were both excused from the game to attend to personal matters. Clint was replaced at second by Jade Hadley, and Gage Crowther filled in for the injured Mer. Both contributed to the win, and will likely be called up from the minors to stay with the team the rest of the season. Outstanding photos of yesterday's action are available on the team's website, compliments of team photographer, Faye Crowther.
Gavin Crowther:
Got Books put on another amazing show in the summer sunlight sponsorships were buzzing. Subway subs of the game "eat fresh" went to Gage Crowther, and Jade Hadley it was tough to replace Clint 'Winnis' Bash Brother Hadley and Merlin Rock McKay. Monster Energy Drink's energy to the max award was a first time ever sponsorship awarded to our fans, as they brought the energy books needed to finish down the stretch. Malan Maw won the "friends of scouting award"http://peelingtheorange.files.
wordpress.com/2010/07/cub-scou t-fred.jpg for showing extreme sportsmanship when with a couple of seconds left he could have not swung the bat and Got Books would have won the game right there, but remembering the things he learned as a young pup in the cub scouts long ago Malan took a hard swing line drive to shortstop and gave the other team a chance to rally. Red rover red rover send Seth Crowther right over, that's what CEO of Land Rover was quoted saying after the game...awarding Seth Crowther a brand new Range Rover for his job well done. Nice job Books Oprah gifted every got books player a $10,000 dollar donation to a charity of their choice for their stunning performance and when asked why she didn't just give the players the money she was quoted saying "cause I'm rich, and their not" thanks Oprah.
More light makes all the difference! And that is true with everything in this life, not just freeze framing sports. Second time out of the shoot, learned a few more things. Next week I'll be turning the VR (vibration reduction) off. Notice it slows down the freeze. Can't spare the miliseconds! Also I wondered if there is anyone who would like to buy me a Nikon 2.8 AF-S VR high speed super-telephoto lens, it's got the nano-Crystal anti reflective coating and it's only five thousand dollars! It would be worth every penny when you see how good it makes you look. When this team goes to the championship, I'm gettin' one!
Half way through the night I decided to venture over to the oposing team's side. I felt a little queezy as I snuck out through their dug out. I wanted some different angles. They tolerated me pretty well thanks to Brady Hosley (Gavin's good friend and Seth's old mission companion. Thanks Brady for letting me stand in your corner of the world!) All in all I felt the pictures were better this week. And I can't believe I've been missing out on the sports arena all this time. What was I thinkin'? With Big Ben for a back drop, action, comradery, and the all American spirit of the sport setting the stage, I should have picked up on this years ago. The hour was perfect for a little ambeiance just as the sun started it's fade. No fade on the team's part however. Nice win! Got Books does it again.

What were you saying Big T?
"That just happened?"
Yes it did!
Captured this shot after three runners touched home!
Yes, we've Got Books!
Missed Gage's nice hit. Some idiot stepped in front of my camera!
I can say that since he wasn't on our team!
How to suffer defeat with dignity!
Loved capturing some explosive facial expressions tonight!
A few of the fans.
I cross over to the other side for one split second and miss the best action of the night!
I can get that clean for you Gav!
Next time you're going to be slidin' in on your stomach, could you let me know first,
would ya ----paleeeeeese?
would ya ----paleeeeeese?
One of my favorite shots of the night ---Like Father Like Son!
